Movie Haiku:England at the end of the Empire. Stevens (Hopkins) is a butler; he treats “service” in the household of Lord Darlington as a calling, running the staff with the precision of a military officer. When WWII ends, everything changes, and Stevens has nowhere to turn. Elegant drama – nuanced & implicit.
