Movie Haiku:Very long & slow-paced adaptation of the blockbuster Broadway hit based on the Yiddish stories of Sholem Aleichem. Jewison elected an “authentic” look, emphasizing the political aspects of the narrative that prefigure the Holocaust. Nevertheless, the vitality & warmth of the original sources (literary & musical) shine through. Best CD option = New 2004 Broadway Revival!
