Movie Haiku:Sayles’ left-wing reconstruction of the infamous 1919 Chicago White Sox scandal. The ballplayers (Shoeless Joe Jackson & his teammates) are “the workers.” Abused by management & double-crossed by greedy gamblers, they’re at the mercy of the forces arrayed against them. The cast is huge… sacrificing character depth for historical breadth.
