Movie Haiku:Filming in Cincinnati, Sayles records the inner workings of his archetypical rust belt metropolis, ironically casting himself as its most cynical operator. Ethnic whites compete among themselves while still trying to hold back the increasingly savvy black leadership. Dozens of powerful performances, but the whole package wraps a little too neatly.
