4 out of 5

Key Performances:

  Nicolas Cage
  Chris Cooper
  Brian Cox
  Meryl Streep
  Tilda Swinton
Movie Haiku:Split Decision: Jan loved Streep & Cooper, but found Cage tedious & self-indulgent. Rich, however, thoroughly enjoyed this twisty, involuted tale of a screenwriter (Cage) trying to adapt an actual non-fiction classic by NEW YORKER writer Susan Orlean (played by Streep) without falling into any of Hollywood’s typical commercial traps.
