Movie Haiku:Raw slice of working-class life. Deserted by her father in her early teens, Debby now has a love/hate relationship with men, alternating between desperate need & caustic anger. Thurman does well in a grating, almost thankless part. Lewis & Rowlands are both touching as her best friend & her mother.
