FF2 NOTE:

This was a terrific year for independent films & we managed to see every film on IFP’s list except ELEPHANT before voting. Coming up with one vote between us was often easy (AMERICAN SPLENDOR, for example, scored very high on both of our individual lists), but many compromises were also required & there were even some coin-tosses.

Ironically, we found that the toughest category to rank this year was “Best Feature made for under $500,000” (aka “The John Cassavetes Award” category). Each one of these five films is very special & we urge you to look for all five of them once they become available on DVD &/or cable TV. Now that more filmmakers have access to Digital Video & other emerging technologies, we may well be entering a new golden age!
